Willie Gene Harrell

Willie Gene Harrell, 74, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Atrium Health Cabarrus. He was in declining health and was admitted to the hospital on October 25, 2022.

Willie was born December 3, 1947 in Pitt County, N.C. a son of the late Johnnie David Harrell and Audrey Lee Godley Harrell Williams.

He was educated at the Morganton School for the Deaf. He was a longtime member of Parkdale Baptist Church where he was active as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class and volunteered to help on mission trips and enjoyed the fellowship with the deaf.

Willie was employed at Cannon Mills Plant #4 and #6 in the doffing department, retiring with 28 years of service. He enjoyed watching sporting events, was a Pittsburg Steeler’s fan, working crossword puzzles and word search books.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Saturday, November 6, 2022 at Parkwood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Bo Sherrill. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.

Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years, Marion Milligan Harrell of the Home, one daughter, Rita Joy H. Truesdale (Terrell) of Kannapolis, four grandchildren; Nautica Shinn Young of Mooresville and Amare, Ari, and Avi Truesdale of Kannapolis along with one great grandchild.

He is also survived by two sisters, Frances Glisson and Anne Glisson (Billy) all of Greenville, NC, and a sister-in-law, Sonia Williams (Benjie) along with nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be made to Parkwood Baptist Church, 1069 Central Drive NW, Concord, NC 28027 For the Ministry of the Deaf.
