William Markham III Obituary
Major William James Markham III, USMC, Ret., age 48, passed away January 9, 2023. Will was born on March 26, 1974 in Mecklenburg County, a son of William James Markham Jr. of Landis and the late Brenda Jones Markham.
Will was a decorated war veteran with the US Marines Corps for 18 years where he served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq during the Gulf War. Will also enjoyed many hobbies such as running, playing tennis, watching college football and shooting.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel. His family will receive friends after the memorial service at Whitley’s.
Will is survived by his father William James Markham Jr. (fiancé, Mary Ann Wheat), grandmother, Vivian Tuerk Markham of Duluth, GA, brother, Michael Christopher Markham, nephew, Michael C. Markham, Jr., nieces, Vivian and Abigail Markham, Uncles, Bruce D. Jones (Rebecca), John T. Markham (Elizabeth), Robert F. Markham (Nancy), Timothy T. Markham (Resa) and Christopher P. Markham (Wendy).
Memorials may be made in Will’s name to the ptsd.va.gov organization for Veteran Affairs to help veterans with PTSD disorder.
