Wayne enjoyed playing football for A.L. Brown and also worked for the Daily Independent. He later worked as a Supervisor for Cannon Mills Sheet Department. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his sons on the lake. Wayne filled his free time selflessly taking part in multiple volunteer projects. His personal favorite was Operation Christmas Child. He also rang the Salvation Army Bell and delivered Rowan County Meals on Wheels. Second to his love of God was his love of fellowship with his wonderful family and friends.
