Mrs. Rob Strickland McGee, celebrating a life well lived, age 103, passed into the arms of The Savior she loved Sunday August 11, 2019. She is now reunited with her husband James “Jim” Kent McGee and beloved son Robert Steven “Steve” McGee. Born on April 6, 1916 she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. R.H. Strickland of Clifton, TN. She is survived by a daughter in-law, Sharon McGee Gore with whom she resided, lives in Concord, NC. Sharon is appreciative that God gave her the opportunity to care for Rob and take her into her home. She is also survived by a niece, Sylvia Lumsden Campbell; two nephews, Paul Lumsden and Jimmy Averette; and her three beloved canine companions, Roxie, Pixie and Lexie. The hole left in the hearts of the family with Rob’s passing will be enormous, but they have the comfort of these words “she fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.”

Mrs. McGee taught school in Oak Ridge, TN, Paducah, KY, and then returned to Nashville, TN where she taught school at Donelson High School. She served as a guidance counselor at Two Rivers High School and McGavock High School. Mrs. McGee was a sponsor of the Student Council at both Two Rivers and McGavock High Schools. She was also a counselor at Donelson Christian Academy. After her retirement, Mrs. McGee volunteered daily at McGavock High School for the next ten years.

She was a member of the Tennessee Teacher’s and Guidance Organizations, as well as a lifetime member of the National Education Association and member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of leading female educator. The number of young lives she touched during her years as a teacher and guidance counselor are innumerable.

Mrs. McGee received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University, a Master of Science degree from UT Knoxville and an additional 45 hours from Peabody College, Nashville.

When she lived in Nashville, Mrs. McGee was a member of Donelson Church of Christ.

Prior to her move to North Carolina, McGavock High School opened the Rob McGee Hall of Fame room in her honor.
