Phyllis Wayne (Metcalf) McCarty

Phyllis Metcalf McCarty, 89, of Kannapolis, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023 at Glenbridge Health and Rehab in Boone, NC.

She was born in Cabarrus County to the late Ruben Rucker Metcalf and Annie Ruby Wellman Metcalf Long.

Phyllis was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School, and attended Central Piedmont Community College. She loved to travel, enjoyed artistic and creative endeavors, and was always ready with a wisecracking joke. She loved spending time with her family, and took special pride in her daughter, Melony.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. McCarty, as well as two brothers, Roland and Charles Metcalf.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melony Kuyath (Steve) of Boone, her brother Terry Metcalf (Mavis) of Concord, two granddaughters, Chelsea Kuyath of Boone and Nikki Kuyath Aldridge (Jeremy) of Laurel Springs, as well as two great grandchildren and other cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James (Jim) Watford officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
