Nancy Kay (Black) Smith

Nancy Kay Black Smith, 85, of Kannapolis passed away on November 16, 2022 while at Tucker Hospice House after a brief period of declining health.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 21 at the Salisbury National Cemetery at 501 Statesville Blvd. in Salisbury.

Nancy was born July 4, 1937, in Catawba Co., a daughter of the late Zellie L. and Inez Little Black. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her late husband, Bobby Lee Smith, her brother, Eddie Black and her son, Scottie Nicholson.

Nancy was a long-time area resident and in earlier years attended Eastwood Baptist church with her children. She worked as a CNA for many years at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and then various local Nursing homes until she retired. She enjoyed going to Cherokee NC and staying at Harrah’s Casino. Nancy also enjoyed listening to country music, especially Conway Twitty. She was a hardworking woman, raising two children as a single mom and then in later years, looked after her husband and her parents. Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Sebrina Britt (Robert) of Oriental NC; her grandchildren, Leslie Nicholson, Cody Britt (Kristin) and Jake Britt (Sarah); her great-grandson, Eli Ali and also her sister Joann Black Shaw of Kannapolis.
