Myra (Brooks) Gray

Myra Lind Brooks Gray, 85, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

Myra was born on September 13, 1936, in Mooresville, NC, a daughter of the late Thomas Joshua Brooks and Lola Wallace Brooks.

 Born and raised in Mooresville, Myra attended Mooresville City Schools and graduated in 1954. She then attended Lowrance Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1957. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She married the love of her life, Dan Gray, in August 1958. She continued her nursing career at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital as Supervisor of the Pediatric Floor. Her work continued there until she began her family, her greatest work. Myra and Dan joined First Baptist Church, Kannapolis in 1962 where she was active with Sunday school, Women’s Ministries and as a volunteer in the Nursery. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was beloved by all.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Dan L. Gray, Sr.; Daughter, Lori Gray Newsom (Lee); Sons, Dan L. Gray, Jr. (Samantha) and John Brooks Gray; grandchildren, Kathryn Newsom Taylor (Will), Anne Newsom Anuszkiewicz (Brad), Mary Hannah Newsom McCombs (Michael), Camille Brooks Besecker Gray, Luke Weldon Besecker Gray, Isaiah “Zaiah” Thomas Besecker Gray; and one great-grandchild, Haven Myra Taylor. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 1, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Kannapolis, with Dr. Tom Cabaniss officiating. A private burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family requests that masks be worn during the service.
