Millie "Mickey" "Nanny" J (Lunsford) Austin

Millie “Mickey”, “Nanny” J Lunsford Austin went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at her residence following several years of declining health.

Mickey was born February 21 1932 in Rowan County, NC a daughter of the late Joseph Cullen Lunsford and Mattie Lou Byrd Lunsford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George Washington Austin on July 29, 2012. A daughter Rushie Austin Shue, a grandson, Jamie Lynn Shue and a sister, Marlene Kiser also preceded her in death.

Family members left to cherish her love and memory include one daughter and her caretaker, Robin Austin Overcash of China Grove. Two grandsons, Tyler Overcash and wife Dore of China Grove, and Jason Shue of Mt. Pleasant.

She was also survived by seven grandchildren; Austin, Abby, Madalynn and Eva Shue, Avery and Audrey Overcash and Grayson Wright.

“The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Mary Campbell, Pam Dancy and Dorie Overcash along with her Hospice Team; Tanya and Eleni.”

A graveside service will be held 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Carolina Memorial Park conducted by Rob Drye.

Mickey was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. She was a member of Nazareth Community Church. She had retired from Cannon Mills Plt. #1 as a timekeeper.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved to cook for her family. She also enjoyed going to the beach, mountains and going to the river.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
