Melvin S. Schenck, 79, of China Grove passed away on January 20, 2023 at Atrium Cabarrus. He was born August 6, 1943 in Rowan County, a son of the late Shirley Brown Schenck and Mary Sprinkle Schenck.
Melvin had been a supervisor and account manager for bread sales for various companies most of his life including Bost Bakeries and Merita Bread. He also worked with Food Lion in setting up new stores up and down the east coast. After retiring, Melvin worked for Whitley’s Funeral Home for the past 11 years. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard.
Melvin was a very active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church where he was involved in many church activities. He served as past president of the council, usher, cemetery chairman, greeter, evangelism and property committee member. He most loved participating in the live Easter Pageant the church put on for the past 50 years, playing Peter. Melvin was also a member of Eureka Lodge #283 in China Grove.
Melvin loved traveling, fishing and watching racing. He loved visiting and sitting and talking with people through the years. He was a gentle, kind and down to earth man that will be missed by all that knew him.
A funeral service to celebrate Melvin’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday evening at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
Melvin was proceeded in death by his sister, Lollie Schenck Stamey. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gale Moser Schenck, daughters, Scarlett Schenck Fleming, Nicole Schenck Mault, grandchildren, Salem Fleming, Nicolas Mault and Marielle Gordon.
