Melba Jean (Brooks) Sides

Melba Jean Brooks Sides, 87, of Concord, passed away Monday May 3, 2021. Born February 1, 1934 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late James Charlie and Ola Bell Howard Brooks.

Melba loved reading, doing puzzles, visiting with friends and teaching the younger generations. More than anything, she loved her family.

Melba is survived by her children, Carol “Jeanette” Tallent and husband George of Concord, Carl Wayne Sides and wife Sandra of Mt. Pleasant and Judy Medlin (late husband Michael Steven) of Marshville; nine grandchildren, Frank Hollis, Monti Hollis, Eric Sides, Amber Sides, Brooke Sides, Brandon Sides, Devan Sides, Michael Medlin and Tim Medlin; twelve great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerry Sides on April 13, 1991.

Funeral services to honor Melba’s life will be held 3:00 PM Thursday May 6, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Chapel, Kannapolis. Pastor Michael Taylor will officiate. Interment will immediately follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
