Mary Agnes (Corriher) Sloan Flowers

Mary Agnes Corriher Sloan Flowers, 97, of China Grove, passed away Sunday August 21, 2022 after a period of declining health. Born April 12, 1925 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late William Albert Corriher, Sr. and Mary McLaughlin Corriher.

Mary was a 1942 graduate of Landis High School.  During her working years, Mary, a graduate of King’s Business College in Charlotte, worked in the administrative office of Cannon Mills early in her career.  After her six children were in school, she worked at Terry Products. She loved her church, Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Mary taught Sunday School for years at Mt. Zion UCC. She loved reading, especially her Bible. Perhaps more than anything else, she loved her family with all of her heart.

Those left behind to cherish Mary’s memory include her children Dolores McDowell (Jerry) of Raleigh, Lee Sloan (Marie) of Corpus Christi, TX, David Sloan (Judy) of Kannapolis, Karen Miller (Henry) of Mooresville, and Ed Sloan (Linda) of China Grove; a brother, Bill Corriher, Jr. (Polly) of China Grove; two sister in-laws, Thelma Archer of China Grove and Frieda Stengel of Cedarburg, WI; Thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Aside from her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Reece Sloan and Paul Flowers; a daughter, Gwyn Kluttz; a granddaughter, Susan McDowell; brothers, Edd, Henry, and Joel Corriher, and Clyde Deal; sisters, Dora Morgan, Christine Corriher, Elberta Fesperman, and Beulah Holland.

A funeral service to honor Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 28, at Central Baptist Church, 1810 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Rev. Dean Hunter will officiate. Interment will immediately follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mt. Zion Section, China Grove. The family will receive friends at Central Baptist from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.
