Leonard Lenson James

Leonard Lenson James, 74, of Concord, went into his heavenly home on March 7, 2020 at Tucker Hospice House.

Leonard was born on January 7, 1946 in Mt. Croghan, SC to the late Spoffard James and Bessie Coralee Tucker James.

Leonard was one in a family of twelve children.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Pete James, David James, John James, Lether Mae Tucker, Gracie Cain, Mary Katherine Morrison, Ronnie James, and Grady James.  

Leonard worked as a fixer for Cannon Mills for over 20 years. He then went on to operate MRC Door Inc. in Concord. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking the family on camping trips. He loved to spend time outside gardening vegetables, flowers, and especially roses. He was also an avid fan of the UNC Tarheels.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 56 years, Martha Allen James; daughters, Cheryl (Chris) Talkington and Rita Whitaker; grandson, Randall (Amy) Patton, great-grandchildren, Rosalee and Althea Patton; brothers, L.C. “Ducky” James, Jerrell James, and sister, Margaret Sheets, who will all miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. Allen and Kelly Russell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.
