Joseph Gibson Untz

Joseph Gibson Untz, Sr. 91 of Concord went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 19, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a period of declining health.

Joseph was born April 28, 1930 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late Ernest L. and Lillie Pearl Ballard Untz. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

He was a graduate of Odell High School and was a veteran of the US Navy.

Joseph was a longtime member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church where he was active as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of Cannon Masonic Lodge #626 AF&AM.

He retired from Prudential Insurance Company with 30 years of service. Following retirement he enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, tinkering with his tractor, gardening and doing yard work. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States with friends for many years.

Funeral services for Mr. Untz will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. William Van Wieren, III. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 P.M.-1:45 P.M. prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Loving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 72 years; Rachel Cline Untz, two daughters, Rebecca Cray and husband Pat of Matthews, and Gail Johnson of Concord, one son, Joseph “Joey” Untz, Jr. and wife Lorrie of Kannapolis along with six grandchildren; Natalie Cray, Corey Cray, Hayden Untz, Lindsey Daniels, Joseph Johnson, and Cole Johnson along with one great granddaughter Elliot Daniels.
