John "J.O." Dayvault Jr. Obituary

John Otto “J.O.” Dayvault Jr., 94, of Concord, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

J.O. was born February 1, 1927 in Cabarrus County, to the late John Otto Dayvault Sr. and Laura Murph Dayvault. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Ray Dayvault, brother-in-law, Ray Hope Maples, and sister-in-law, Delsie May Lawing Maples.

J.O. honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University. John spent his career as an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer, where he shared his passion by training and mentoring others in the field. He also served as a volunteer fireman and once won an award of bravery and courage in life-saving situations presented by the City of Kannapolis.

He married the love of his life Valerie Lawing Dayvault on June 7, 1952, who survives.  He was a loving husband and father who dearly cherished his family. In his free time, he enjoyed boating and water sports on Lake Norman in the Summer. He was formerly a member of Midway United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 69 years, Valerie Lawing Dayvault; son, John Dayvault III and wife Beverly Dayvault, and granddaughter, Teal Dayvault.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord with Rev. Dennis Morgan officiating.
