Joann (Kemp) Deaton

Joann Kemp Deaton, 73, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Pruitt Health Union Pointe.

Joann was born on October 3, 1947 in Cabarrus County to the late Joseph Green Kemp and Leila Sweat Kemp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Guy Donald Deaton in 2019.

Joann loved to clean and keep her home tidy. She was a talented seamstress and liked to make clothes and blankets for her children. She also enjoyed cooking and listening to gospel music. She was very proud to have gotten her GED at the age of 60. Most of all, she loved her family and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Donald Deaton and Terry (Lisa) Deaton; grandchildren, Logan Deaton, Leila Ann Lannette Deaton, Brian (Jamie) Deaton; great-grandchildren, Zachary Overcash and Kaitlin Overcash, brothers, Bobby (Lisa) Kemp and Timmy Kemp, and sister, Jean (Harold) Foster.

A memorial service honoring Joann’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Kemp officiating. The family will speak to friends following the service.
