Joan Sloop Walter, 85, of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus after a brief period of declining health. Joan was born December 10, 1935, in Rowan Co., a daughter of the late Grover Nehemiah and Ollie Belle Patterson Sloop.
Joan’s funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Monday April 26 at New Hope Lutheran Church, with Pastor Janice Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Monday at the church in the fellowship hall.
She was a lifelong area resident, a 1954 graduate of A.L. Brown High School with the honor of being the class valedictorian as well as a longtime member of New Hope Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and researching genealogy. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband Spencer Lee “Sam” Walter, her brother Harold Sloop, her sister Margaret Sloop and her daughter in law Julie McLain Walter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Charlotte Walter McAllister (Allen), her sons Kenneth B. Walter and Richard Walter, all of Kannapolis, her 3 grandchildren, Kenneth Walter Jr. and Corey and Melissa McAllister, her great-grandchild, Spencer Lynn Walter and her sibling, Max Conrad Sloop.
