Jerry Alexander McWhorter

Jerry Alexander McWhorter, 79, of China Grove, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Novant Health Presbyterian Med. Center in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, October 25 at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Concord with Rev. Lowell McManey and Pastor Bobby Dionne officiating. His family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church foyer.

Jerry was born August 18, 1941 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late George F. and Laura Shinn McWhorter. He was the last surviving of 8 siblings. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by Carl McDuffie, Louise Canup, Laura Nagy, Charles McWhorter, Mary Ellen “Macy” Hilburn and twins, Jean Griffin and Joyce Clawson.

Jerry was a lifelong area resident, 1959 graduate of A.L. Brown High School and faithful attender at Crossroads United Methodist Church. He worked for many years at Cannon Mills as a head loom fixer at Plant #4. Jerry enjoyed working in his yard and gardening, spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of playing the NC Lottery every day.

He is survived by his son Keith McWhorter of Concord and his daughters; Kim Bumgardner (Phil) of Kannapolis and Karen Barker of Mooresville. His grandchildren include Adam Bumgardner, Julianna Bumgardner Kirby (Chase), Kelsey Brigman, Kendyl Brigman and Kylie Patten and 2 great-grandchildren; Charlotte and Silas Kirby.
