James "Jimmy" W. Jones, Jr.

James W. "Jimmy" Jones, Jr. died at his home in Topsail, NC on January 11, 2021 age 71. Jimmy suffered a heart attack on October 25, 2020 while on vacation.  He was rushed to Gainesville Hospital in Georgia to gain strength for major surgery to replace a severely damaged heart valve.  He was able to return to his home in Topsail on December 5, 2020. 

He was the only son of the late James W. Jones Sr. and Connie Tadlock Jones, Jimmy was born on April 12, 1949 in Concord, NC.  

He was a senior at South Rowan class of 1967 but completed his education at Rowan Community College in Salisbury NC.  He was drafted into the US Army and fought in some of the heaviest combat in Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged in 1971 returning to his home in the Concord area.  Jimmy grew up in the Enochville area of Kannapolis, NC.

Jimmy loved working outside and started building homes then progressed into heavy construction.  He retired as a Concrete Construction Superintendent in the Wilmington area but traveled much of the southeast on large industrial projects.  During his career he was a lead supervisor on the addition and expansion of Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in 1978 then moving to the construction and competition of the Philip Morris plant in Concord, NC before making his home in the coastal area of NC.

He loved all things outdoors, his prize pit bull Glide, hunting, riding one of his Harleys, training ribbon winning hunting dogs, fishing and one very special trip to Montana for elk hunting.  He was the founder of the first Concerned Bikers Association in Stanley County serving as President for many years.  The CBA was very active in motorcycle safety awareness and organizing Toy Runs to raise funds for local children's charities.  He also participated in the DAV supporting all veterans.  He had a great smile, outgoing personality, and was a loving brother and great friend to many.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Topsail,  daughter Kathryn Montana and two grandchildren, Ely & MaryAnn,  three sisters, Linda Kay Jones and Brenda Fay Hightower of Concord and Cynthia Jones of Chesnee, SC, niece, Paige Coffey of Mooresville (Macey & Parker), and nephew Daniel Hatley (William and Carter) of Chapel Hill.

There will be a gathering of friends and family later in the spring to celebrate a life gone too soon.  Anyone wishing to honor Jimmy please donate to the charity of your choice in his memory.
