Hoyt Beam Obituary

Obituary-Hoyt Wilson Beam

June 11, 1937 –July 5, 2022

Hoyt Wilson Beam (85) of Concord died on Tuesday July 5 after a brief illness.  He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Irene Barnett Beam; parents Woodrow Wilson Beam and Mary Link Beam; three brothers, Guy Beam (Frances-of Rockwell), Gary Beam (Sue-deceased), and Bill Beam (Carolyn-Durham).  He is survived by his daughter Sheila Rohrer Sanders (Steven) of Sunset Beach, NC, and son Rev. David Wilson Beam (Angie) of Franklin, NC; three grandsons, Jason Rohrer (Amber) of Columbia, SC; Stephen Rohrer (Dana) of Concord, NC; and Andrew Beam (Katelyn) of McClellanville, SC; and four great-grandchildren (Owen, Gwyneth, Noi Rae, and Arlo Rohrer), and his sister Barbara Beam Carter (Lamar-deceased) of Dillon, S.C. and brother Ray Preston Beam (Anne) of Wilson, N.C.

He was born in Kannapolis and attended A.L. Brown High School.  He and Mary Irene were married in August 1957 and were together almost every hour thereafter until her death in November 2021.  Their love and commitment to one another was and is amazing.  He began working in Canon Mills at age 16 sweeping floors but worked his way to fixing sewing machines and ended his career in the shop designing and building machines after 34 years.  He and other members of the team in the shop have their names on several patents.  Hoyt had a brilliant mind and he never stopped learning, taking courses in Real Estate, masonry, electronics and mathematics at Rowan Tech.  His second love in life was farming their land.  He took the Master Gardener course and graduated but was already gifted with a green thumb.  He was a man of great faith and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.  He gave more than he ever had, and sacrificed for those whom he loved.  He is now at peace with his Lord and once again beside the love of his life Mary Irene.

The funeral service will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Concord, N.C. at 3:00p.m. on Friday July 8. with visitation from 1:00p.m.-2:45p.m.  The Reverend Gary Sowells, Reverend David Cochran, and Reverend Charles F. Gibbons will be officiating.  Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church or Tucker Hospice of Kannapolis.  Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
