Guy Gordon Cline

It is with much sadness that the family of Guy Cline announce his peaceful passing on August 27 at the age of 78.

Guy was born in Cabarrus County on February 20, 1944 to the late Ermalee and Elmer Cline. Guy graduated from Winecoff High School and went on to work in the machine office at Cannon Mills until its closing.

Guy enjoyed 55 years of love and friendship with his wife Carol until she passed away last April. Guy supported Carol until her last day whether that meant watching her line dance, feeding her newly adopted stray cat, sitting with her while she read the newest John Grisham book, or standing by her twice while she bravely battled cancer.

Not only was Guy a constant in Carol’s life, he was a loyal father, brother, uncle, friend, and Papaw. Guy supported his two sons, Jamey and Jody, through every season of their life. He enjoyed their companionship and comradery until his last breath. “Papaw” could be found slipping his grandkids Spearmint Starlights or serving them up fried fish on his back porch.

When Guy wasn’t going on cruises to Alaska or the Caribbean with his sweetheart, he was enjoying the simple things. He loved cheering on Dale Earnhardt. He delighted in feeding the deer that would come up into his backyard. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and the rest of his family. He was a loyal, trustworthy, and good man who will be missed by so many.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his sister Nancy Christy; his sons Jamey Cline (Michelle) and Jody Cline (Kristin); his grandchildren, Megan Gabbert (Kenneth), Josh Cline, Lauren Cline, Matthew Cline, Camryn Umberger, and Reagan Umberger; his great grandson Ezra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife Carol, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Cline, and a sister, Jane Cochran. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will  be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tina Thompson officiating. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum.
