Grace Marie (Rhodes) Furr

Grace Marie Rhodes Furr, 91 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on May 22, 2023, at her home.  Grace was born on April 27,1932, in Cherokee County, North Carolina to the late Pearlie and Annie Lee Lunsford Rhodes Goforth.

Grace was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmom, and great great grandma.  She has been a woman of God since she was 18 years old and a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Kannapolis, where she was a past secretary and treasurer.  Grace worked for Cannon Mills for 45 years, retiring in 1989.  After she retired from the Mill, she went to work at Food Lion in their Deli department for many years.  In her spare time, Grace enjoyed going to the mountains and the beach.

Grace was predeceased by her husband, John Arthur Furr; her daughter-in-law, Jackie Furr; her son-in-law, Gerald D. Smith Sr., her grandson, Gerald D. Smith Jr.; and nephew Gary Rhodes.  Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Danny Wayne “Pete” Furr; her daughter, Wilma Smith; her brother, Edward Rhodes, and his wife Shirley; her five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great grandchild and two special nieces Theresa Allman and Lori Bradshaw.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 29, 2023, from 3-5pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home and from 10:30-11:00 before the service.  A funeral service celebrating Grace’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 11:00am at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 229 Westover Ave., Kannapolis, NC with Rev. Ronnie Brown officiating. The interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
