Evelyn (Rogers) Basinger

Evelyn "Wootsie" Rogers Basinger, 89, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, January 10, 2023, at her home, following a brief period of declining health.

Born July 16, 1933, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Lowe Murph Rogers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman Basinger; her brothers, Watt, Bill and Bob Rogers; and nephews, Tommy, Steve and Jerry Rogers.

Evelyn had retired from W.S. Tyler Company of Salisbury, after 28 years of dedicated service, and was a loyal member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Evelyn and Norman loved to travel, being able to visit every state and Canada, many times attending Norman’s ship reunions. The two also loved to dance, taking lessons from Kim Hubbard, who was a great teacher and loved friend. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 8989 Auxiliary, helping with the cooking there for many years.  Evelyn and Norman are once again holding hands and sharing a dance on those golden streets. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. 

Family members include her stepdaughters, Donna Hamilton and Crystal Smith; her nieces, Sherry Hicks and Gloria Rogers Beaver; nephew, Dennis Rogers; Great niece, Dawn Spry; great nephew, Tommy Rogers, Jr. and extended family members. 

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, January 12th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home.  Funeral services to remember and celebrate Evelyn’s life will begin at 2:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2023, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, conducted by Reverend Lucas Safrit, Pastor.  Burial will follow at Carolina memorial Park, where Evelyn will be laid to rest with her husband.
