Esther "Del" (Smith) Safrit

Esther Ordella “Del” Smith Safrit, 85 years old, of Concord, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2023.  Esther was born on April 11, 1937 in Rowan County to the late Edd and Lydia Gorrell Smith.

Esther was a teacher’s assistant for 45 years with the Kannapolis City Schools, where she worked with EC students and also was a bus monitor.  She liked to cook, attend church, and tend to her garden.  Esther always made sure that her hair and makeup was done before she left the house.

Esther was predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Robert Wells Safrit, Jr. in 1998; her son, Wesley Safrit; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Safrit; her sisters, Jessie Robinson and Orphie Safrit and her brothers, Lewis, Charlie, Glen and Grady Smith.  Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Debbie Curlee and her husband Jeff; her sons, Keith Safrit and Rick Safrit and his wife Barbara; her brother, Mac Smith and his wife Jean; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 1-2pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home with a 2pm funeral service officiated by Rev. Jon Harless to follow.  Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their excellent care of Esther.
