Elmer “ Dean “ Vannoy, 84, of Landis, passed away Wednesday morning, October 27, 2021, at Novant Health Presbyterian, following a brief illness.
Born August 22, 1937, in Salisbury, he was a son of the late Della Mae Vannoy. In addition to his mother, Dean was predeceased by his beloved wife, Myrna Cook Vannoy, on January 4, 2007.
Dean had been a loyal and talented employee of Bendix for over 31 years, later retiring from Celanese. Earlier in life, he had honorably served his country with the US Army. Dean loved “tinkering” on anything mechanical and could fix almost everything. He enjoyed time spent with his family and absolutely adored his great granddaughter, Nelson. He also enjoyed raising and loving his Doberman Pinscher dogs over the years. A loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend of many, Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family members left with cherished memories include his children, Jeff Vannoy (Holly) and Deana Vannoy Harden (Bobby); his grandchildren, Brooke and Zack Vannoy, Jenson Harden (Chelsea) and Karrigan Harden; his great granddaughter, Nelson Harden, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate Dean’s life will begin at 2:00 pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Jimmy Moore and Billy Honeycutt. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest with his wife.
