Dorothy JoAnn (Stewart) Smith

Dorothy Stewart Smith, 84, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 15, 2023, at her home, following a period of declining health.

Born January 17, 1939, in Belmont, NC, she was a daughter of the late Rodney and Fleta Mae Rushing Stewart.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Mrs. Smith had retired from Cannon Mills after more than 42 years of loyal service, where she lastly worked as a lab technician.  She had attended Mt Olivet Baptist Church. A devoted and loving child of God, wife, mother, housewife, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, she will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Loving family members include her husband of 65 years, Billy R. Smith; her children, Donna Patterson (Kenny), Cindy Key (Eddie) and Jeff Smith (Chandra); her grandchildren, Kim Shuffler (Phillip), Mandy Bost (Adam), Ben Patterson (Melisa), Kendra Key (Matthew Acosta), and Tyler and Trevor Smith; great grandchildren, Hayden and Collin Shuffler; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 18th from 11:00-12:00 pm at South China Grove Baptist Church.  Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mrs. Smith’s life will begin at 12:00 pm at the church, conducted by Reverends Curtis Parker and Ronnie Brown.  Burial will follow the services at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
