David Lee Helms

David Lee Helms, 79 years old, passed away on November 21, 2022.  David was born in Rowan County on October 2, 1943 to the late Howard C. and Maggie E. Weaver Helms. 

David was a graduate of South Rowan High School.  He proudly served his country in the US Army.  Throughout his career he was a well-respected carpenter in his trade.  He has done work for various companies, including Trexler Construction, Wallace Reality, and most recently Shoe Show.  He liked to play golf, tell jokes and make people laugh, he was a tough man, but very sweet who loved his family, especially his grandkids who called him “Pop David”.

David was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Helms.  Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Brian David Helms; his daughter, Amber Lea Richardson and her husband Jeff; his sisters, Jean Dancy, Rebecca “Becky” Jones and her husband William and Martha Helms; his brother, Donnie Helms and his wife Judy; his grandchildren, Skylar Bost, Caleb Taylor and his wife Ashton, Jonah Taylor, Asia Myers and her husband Lane; Elias Taylor, Austin Richardson and Landon Richardson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Home from 2-3pm with funeral service to follow at 3pm in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel.
