David Lee Ervin

May 26, 1958 — March 14, 2024

China Grove

David Lee Ervin died peacefully at home on March 14, 2024 in China Grove, NC at the age of 65.  He was a beloved father, husband and friend.

David was born on June 26, 1958 in Kannapolis, NC where he spent most of his life.  His family said that even as a child, he played by working on equipment or projects rather than with toys.  He was a beautiful blend of both of his parents, Joe and Gladys Ervin.  He inherited his father’s love for construction work and development and his mother’s love of charity and generosity.

Throughout his professional career he presided over multiple companies including Joe H. Ervin Grading, Prime Development, Abbington Group, Surveying Consultants, Crown Paving and Carolina Rain Garden.  He had a passion for creating something beautiful from rubble.  He took great pride in his projects and found pleasure in working each day.

David was an active man in his community. Throughout his life he was President of the PTA, member of the Chamber of Commerce, Cub Scout leader, and coached many youth sports.  He was a generous man who loved helping community organizations as well as children’s charities including St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Samaritan’s Purse.  He believed in sharing God’s blessings to help those in need.

But more than anything, David was a devoted family man.  He loved spending time with his wife, grandchildren, and children.  He rode around his family farm each night to check on the grandchildren while enjoying nature and often delivering them donuts.  Each of the grandchildren adored going on mule rides with Pops to explore the woods.  He loved going to watch his grandchildren play sports, dance, or any other activity they invited him to attend.  With Pops, they knew he was always there to love and support them.

He was survived by his loving wife, Karen, along with his children, Shannon (Jonathan), Brandon (Abby), Ashleigh (Ross), Adam (Krysta), and Jordan (Jessica) and his grandchildren, Campbell, Mary Katherine, Claire, Everett, Parker, Addison, Avenleigh, Quillon, and Emmaline.  As well as his sister, Beverly (Harry) and her son, Scott (Jennifer) and niece, Caroline.  His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A private service will be held by his family.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse.  Both of these organizations were a large part of David’s life and he wished for his memory to live on by helping others.
