Carolyn Jane Russell Garver peacefully went to be with the Lord Monday August 1, 2022, following a courageous battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease for over 22 years. Carolyn was born on May 30, 1941 in Cabarrus County to the late Paul and Billie (Mary Elizabeth) Stricker Russell.
Carolyn was a dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was very talented in many activities. She was an artist, a basket maker, golfer, snow skier, lasagna baker, “green cake” (pistachio) maker. She always gave more of herself than she asked in return.
She was proceeded in death by parents and her sister Shirley Russell Blackwelder. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Thomas Garver married on July 4, 1959; her son, Scott Garver and his wife Donna; her daughter, Teka Hyatt and her husband David; grandchildren Olivia Groves and her husband Brian and Madeline Groves and her husband Logan, and her great-grandchildren Boone, Annie, Davy, Clark, and Pearl.
Carolyn was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Enochville, NC. She was very active in many church activities, serving as Choir Director, pianist, GA and youth leader and many other church administration duties. She was instrumental in originating an annual church craft fair for many, many years where all the funds that were raised were donated to a local children’s charity. Carolyn held a leadership role in the Gideon Auxiliary of North Carolina.
She will be dearly missed, but we are grateful that she is finally at peace.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 from 11am to 12pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12pm in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Carolina Memorial Park.
We would like to thank Best of Care of Kannapolis and Hospice of Cabarrus County for many, many years of care.
In lieu of flower, please donate Hospice of Cabarrus County in Carolyn’s memory.
