Boyd Zane Lyles

Boyd Zane Lyles, known to most as Zane, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2023, at the age of 87 in Durham, N.C. Zane was born on December 6, 1935, in China Grove, N.C. to Floyd (Doc) Lyles and Elsie Hatley Lyles. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers Carl, Jack, and Ted Lyles.

Zane served in the US Navy and later in the reserves, and always spoke fondly of his time in the military.

After his time in the Navy, he became a successful business owner and ran his own auto mechanic shop. He was known for his love of cars, motorcycles, and working with his hands. Zane was also an avid gardener and fisherman, often spending time on the waters near his home in Supply. In his later years, he enjoyed bird watching as well.

He will be remembered for his toughness, hard work, and loyalty. He loved bluegrass music and cherished attending the annual Hatley family reunion as well as sharing memories and stories with his loved ones.

Zane was married to Linda Clark Lyles and had five daughters: Tamara Sullivan, Sharon [David] Walker, Rose Lyles, Ann [Mike] Carroll, and Patricia [Glen] Fisher, as well as 13 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Floyd Lyles Jr., Glenn [Alice] Lyles, and Clyde Lyles.

Zane was a devout Jehovah's Witness and most recently attended the Kingdom Hall in Hillsborough, N.C.

A memorial service for Zane will be held at the Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, N.C. on Saturday, May 6 2023 at 1 p.m with a reception immediately to follow in the event center.
