Betty Jean Poteat Greene, 84, of Davidson, peacefully passed Monday, September 21, 2020, at her home. Death was unexpected.
Born August 20, 1936 in Davidson County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Locke Poteat and Willie Maude Eller Poteat. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Billie Ray Murphy, Harold James Cunningham and Ray L. Greene; and 7 siblings.
Betty was a 1954 graduate of Landis High and was raised in the Beatty Ford Road area. Earlier, Betty had worked in data processing for Canon Mills, later working in management for Sherwin-Williams. Mrs. Greene loved watching and feeding “her birds’, was a wonderful seamstress and cook, and was a certified master gardener. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend of many, Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She loved all of her family and her little companion, “Maggie”.
Loving family members include her children, India Tilley and Reis Murphy; her grandchildren, Sean Murphy, Sara Murphy Hege and Shaina Wood; her great grandchildren, Wyatt and Colton Hege; beloved niece, Mary Strickland; special friends, Louise Pethel and Uyvonda Culp; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
The family will have private services at a later date.
