Bessie Lee (Horne) Mills

Bessie Lee Horne Mills, 88, of Kannapolis, went into her heavenly home on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Big Elm Nursing Center.

Bessie was born on May 30, 1932 in Anson County, NC to the late Jack Horne and Bessie Caudle Horne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Heath Walter Mills and all 10 of her siblings.

Bessie worked in the Weave Room at Cannon Mills for over 30 years. She was a hard-worker and was always very active. She could always make people laugh and was the life of the party. She enjoyed spending time outside in her garden and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren.  She was also a wonderful cook. She was a long-time and faithful member of Eastwood Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Brenda M. Carter; two sons, Edwin Eugene Mills and fiancé, Donna, and Larry Wayne Mills and wife, Claudia; grandchildren, Billy Carter, Jennifer Carter, Caleb Mullis (Lauren), Matthew Mills (Tonya); and great-grandchild, Lucille Adelaide Mullis.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow and begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Ritchie officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 320 Cook St. Kannapolis, NC 28083.
