Willie Lou Sexton, 89, of Concord, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born May 8, 1936, to the late Kelly Ray and Bessie Mathis Ray in Yancy County.
Willie married the love of her life, John Wesley Sexton, on June 19, 1959, in Asheville, NC. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2018.
Willie dedicated 28 years of service as a sales manager with Sears, while simultaneously working 17 years with State Farm Insurance. Even after retiring, her strong work ethic continued as she served as a Customer Service Manager at Walmart and later worked with Dress Barn.
Willie had a deep love for cooking and baking, often sharing that joy with others. She was a strong, independent woman who truly loved being around people. Her warm spirit and caring nature touched so many lives that she became affectionately known as “Momma Billie.”
Billie had an extraordinary love for others. She embodied a Christ-like spirit and lived with a true servant’s heart. Above all, her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.
Willie was a faithful member of Kannapolis Church of God, where she found great joy in learning, worshiping, and praising her Lord and Savior.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Tracy N. Sexton and Michael A. Sexton; her daughter, Christy S. Medlin; eight grandchildren John David Sexton, Nathaniel Sexton, Nicholas Sexton, Savannah Sexton, Ashley Sexton, Jarrett Medlin, Tanner Medlin and Caden Medlin; five great grandchildren, Ashton Hartman, John D. Samuel Sexton, Kori Fink, Finnick Medlin and Charlotte Sexton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sexton and her parents.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Kannapolis, Church of God, 2211 W A St, Kannapolis, NC 28081. A Celebration of her life will be at 3:00 PM with Pastor Greg Sloop officiating. Private inurnment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
