William Earl Atwell

William Earl Atwell, 85, of China Grove, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital.

William was born March 5, 1940, in Iredell County, North Carolina to the late Liston Foy Atwell and the late Evelyn Omtea Corriher Atwell.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Todd Atwell.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. - 5:45 P.M. on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ. The funeral service will follow on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove officiated by Rev. James Simon. Burial will take place on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1350 S. Main Street, China Grove.

Survivors include wife of 65 years, Sylvia Freeze Atwell; children, Rodney Atwell (Jackie) of China Grove and Kimberly Atwell of China Grove; grandchildren, Patrick Atwell (Stacie) of Concord, NC and Garrett Atwell of China Grove, NC; and great-grandchildren, Zoe Atwell and Ava Atwell.

He liked riding his motorcycle to the mountains. He liked hunting, especially for doves at his friend's field - the Patterson's. William loved working with wood making different things and used to love eating breakfast at Jimmies with all his friends. He belonged to American Legion Post 0185. He worked 12 years with Gray Corriher Floor Covering and 28 yrs at Fiber Industries. He really enjoyed attending his grandson's ballgames and spending time with his great grandchildren.
