Walter Edgar Lyman

May 20, 1943 — August 11, 2023

Landis

Walter Edgar Lyman Jr., 80, of Landis, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, August 11, 2023.

Walter was born on May 20, 1943 in Iredell County. He was the cherished son of the late Walter Edgar Lyman Sr. and Tince Callaway Lyman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gina Lyman Campbell.

Walter was a true outdoorsman. He found joy in fishing and hunting, a hardworking carpenter since the age of 15, and a pastor who touched many lives at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Walter was also a proud Army veteran who served 5 years, including a posting at the Pentagon. Most of all, he cherished his family.

From his early days, Walter found peace in the wilderness. Whether casting a line or tracking game, he felt at home in nature. His woodworking skills were exceptional; he shaped wood into treasures and memories. As a pastor, he shared wisdom and kindness, embodying his beliefs.

Family meant everything to Walter. His role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather defined him. His legacy lives on through them and all who knew him. Walter will be truly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 60 years, Sallie “Becky” Lyman; sons, Darin Lyman and Christopher Lyman (Kristina Kamer); grandchildren, Nikki Watts (Brandan Hatley), Caleb Hilton (Josh Kearns), Rachel Lyman (Bobby Davis), Cheyenne Hinson, Amanda James and Isaiah Lyman; he was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. A graveside service will be held the following day at 11:00 AM with Rev. Hazel Rollings officiating at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
