Mrs. Virginia Lanier Horne (“Jenkie”), 72, of Kannapolis, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. Jenkie was born on June 28, 1947, in Anson County, to the late Mae Belle Horne Bailey Swink. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Eugene Horne, and sister, Joyce Lanier Horne Brooks.
Jenkie was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir. She worked at the former Fieldcrest Cannon in the Sewing Room and then Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. She spent many years playing softball for the “mill” teams. One of her greatest joys in life was being MawMaw, and she truly loved all of her family and friends.
Jenkie leaves behind precious memories to her husband, John Albert Horne, to whom she was married for 55 years; her children, Janice Horne Jackson (Kenneth) and Pamela Horne McEachern (Barry); sisters, Marilyn Pittman (Junior), Joan Motley (Ed), Helen Phillips, and Rita Lynn Barber (Tim); brothers, Wilson (Buddy) Bailey, Jack Bailey (Sandy), and Grover Bailey; grandchildren, Zachary McEachern (Nicole), Joshua Jackson (Allison), Caleb Jackson (Shannon), and Kaitlan McEachern Six (Dylan); great grandchildren, Katherine McEachern, Natalie McEachern, Juliet McEachern, Landon Jackson, Madison Jackson (due in October), Bryce Jackson, Bentley Jackson (due in September), and Aaron Six.
The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 1:00 p.m. in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randall Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Park in Concord.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tucker Hospice House for the compassion shown and care given to Jenkie in her final days.
