Vickie Jean Wilhelm Johnson, 74, of Kannapolis, went home to meet her Lord on November 25, 2022. Vickie died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born on November 18, 1948, Vickie was preceded in death by her mother, Sadie McNeely Wilhelm, and her father, Hubert “Hub” Wilhelm. Vickie was a 1967 graduate of South Rowan High School. Vickie worked briefly for Cannon Mills Company in the Sheet Department before volunteering in Kannapolis City Schools from 1979 to 1999. She befriended hundreds of Kannapolis school children and served thousands of A.L. Brown sports fans through the years in her volunteer role as A.L. Brown Booster Club concessions manager. There was nothing she loved more than a Friday night football game in Kannapolis Memorial Stadium. She also served as Secretary for the Club for many years. Vickie was also a lifelong member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in China Gove where she volunteered in various roles with children through the years.
Vickie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry E. Johnson, daughters Brandi Childers and Bretta Dodson (Joel), and grandchildren Braylee and Riley. Vickie, affectionately called “Mimi” by those closest to her, loved spending time with her grandchildren more than anything in the world. She and Braylee spent countless hours shopping, where she taught Braylee how to find the best deals around! She loved watching Riley excel in his Spanish emersion program at Fred L. Wilson Elementary over the last 6 years and spoiling him with Hershey’s Chocolate Milk, a treat uniquely kept only at Mimi’s house! She is also survived by her beloved Yorkie Max, who spent the last 14 years by her side.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 28 at Whitley’s Funeral Home from 11am-12pm, with funeral service to follow at noon in Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Vickie’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Ln, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
