Thomas Lester Hammett, 82, of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, after a period of declining health. Born September 4, 1941, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Carl and Pearl Hammett.
Thomas married Bobbie Evelyn Graham on September 10, 1961. She preceded him in death on September 9, 2021.
Tommy worked many years at Cannon Mills. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the annual 4th of July family gathering at the beach. Tommy was an avid golfer. Tommy was a loyal member and former Deacon at Shady Brook Baptist Church for over sixty years.
Tommy is survived by his two daughters, Kelly Ijames and husband Dale of Landis and Julie Hollar and husband Tommy of China Grove; four grandchildren, Ben Ijames and wife Jessica, Katelyn Ijames, Bailey Moon and husband Cody, and Seth Hollar; and seven great grandchildren. Tommy was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol (Guy) Cline.
A funeral service to honor Tommy’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Pastor Charlie Littlejohn will officiate. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
