Obituary: Kannapolis- Thelma Sloop Honeycutt, 84, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 12, 2018, at Five Oaks Manor of Concord. Born February 5, 1934 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Waldo Jeremiah Sloop and Bessie Mabelle Morgan Sloop. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Calvin D. Honeycutt; her twin brother, Franklin Sloop; brothers, Herman, C.A., J.D., Guy and Jerry Sloop and sisters, Ruth Thorneburg, Louise Goodman and Helen McGinnes. Thelma graduated from the first class of A.L. Brown High in 1952 and retired after more than 51 years of loyal, dedicated service from Cannon Mills. Mrs. Honeycutt was a faithful charter member of New Hope Lutheran Church. She loved supporting and attending Kannapolis Intimidators games. Mrs. Honeycutt will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family members include her son, Jeff Honeycutt; her brothers, Jacob (Mary Lou) and Tommy (Paulette) Sloop; sisters, Margaret York and Linda Menius; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 17th from 2:00-3:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Honeycutt will begin at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Greg Sloop. Mrs. Honeycutt will be laid to rest with her husband at Carolina Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
