Sylvia Shoaf Sillmon, 88, passed from our sight into the arms of her Lord and Savior on April 1, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Sylvia was born on February 15, 1937, to the late Milton Bays Shoaf, Sr. and Marie Caton Shoaf in Concord, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison (Buddy) Sillmon, her brother Steven Harold Shoaf, and the father of her children Rev. R W Teague.
She is survived by her brother, M. Bays Shoaf, Jr, (Ashley) of Salisbury her children Diane T. Hodges (David) of Dobson, Kathy T, Layton (Art) of Terrell, Jon Teague (Lisa) of China Grove, and Ben Teague (Kelly) of Concord. Granddaughters and Grandsons Alex Martin (Taylor) of Rockwell, Maggie Frederico (Mike) of Garner, Emma Georgeson (Kip) of Nebo, Courtney Meece (Clint) of Granite Quarry, Addie Sweeney of China Grove and Alan Maulden of Concord. Great grandchildren Eleanor and Flynn Martin, Daphne and Olivia Frederico and Dawson Georgeson along with many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia graduated from A. L. Brown High School in 1955 and began her most important job later that year with the birth of a daughter. Another daughter and two sons followed. She was a most nurturing Mother dispensing love and wisdom to each of her children. Full of grace and quiet strength, she provided a comforting home and together with her first husband, taught her children that the most important thing in life was having a relationship with God.
She retired from A. L. Brown High School as Secretary in the Guidance Department with 16 years of service.
Harrison Sillmon came into her life years later and together they shared many wonderful adventures. Rides on motorcycles, trips to the mountains, and campfires in the back yard with guitars and family were the best!
Sylvia was a lifelong Methodist and dearly loved her Bethpage church family. She sang in the choir, was a member of the Women of Wisdom Sunday School class and the Bessie Lou circle. Sylvia was instrumental in starting the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Bethpage and was always ready to serve in any capacity needed. In 2013 she was given the Laity Service Award by the Western North Carolina Conference.
She was a wonderful Mother and took such pride in her family, always looking forward to and cherishing their times together.
Visitation will be held at Bethpage United Methodist Church located at 109 Fellowship Avenue, Kannapolis, NC on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2 pm with the Celebration of Life beginning at 3 pm. Burial will follow at the Church cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and donations can be made in Mom’s honor to Bethpage UMC and Hospice of Cabarrus County.
