Stephen Young Sweet

Stephen Young Sweet was born in Mooresville, NC to Edward Young Sweet and Flora Templeton Sweet. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Carolyn Lewis Sweet; brother Gary E Sweet; sister Ann Sweet Walker (Neal); brother-in-law Dr. Jasper L Lewis Jr. (Anne); niece Jennifer Walker; nephews Kevin Walker (Deanna), Dr. W. Lee Lewis (Kathy), Dr. Richard S. Lewis (Kristie) and J.D James Drury Lewis (Paula); plus six first cousins.

Steve grew up in Mooresville and graduated from Mooresville High School, Wake Forrest University, and UNC Charlotte. He and his wife made their home in Concord. He was a Vietnam Veteran where as a First Lieutenant he was the commanding officer of a truck company stationed in Pleiku.

For 49 years he was employed by and then owned Ed Y. Sweet Income Tax Business which was begun by his father. Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church of Concord; the Kannapolis Rotary club; and The Holiday Rambler R.V. Club. He was also a Mason, a Gideon, and an airplane pilot.

Steve had a pleasant, calm personality. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV to numerous states- including Alaska. His pleasant smile and quiet voice will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation for Steve will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the Shackelford Family Cemetery, 4795 Alt US-264, Walstonburg, NC 27888.
