Shuford Harrison Belk, Jr., age 91, of Wilmington and formerly of Kannapolis, went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on November 29, 2025, at The Gardens of Statesville after a long battle with dementia and surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 5, 1934, in Monroe, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Shuford Harrison Belk Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth Godfrey Belk. Shuford proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp and U.S. Air Force, exemplifying his dedication to his country. He had a successful career as an Electrical Engineer with Westinghouse Inc. before establishing his own electrical engineering business.
Shuford was deeply involved in his church, Grace Baptist Church of Wilmington. As a member of Grace Baptist Church, he took joy in teaching Sunday School and volunteering on Wednesday nights. He enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing and building and flying model airplanes. His love for music enriched his life and those around him. Shuford was a loving father and a generous individual whose warmth and kindness will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children: David Belk (Terri), Nancy DeLoach (Ricky), Geoffrey Belk (Louisa), and Steven Belk (Kim); eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ralph Belk (Brenda) and Roy “Doug” Belk (Kay). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Rowe Belk, as well as his brother Tony Belk and sister Edna Ruth Pennell.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Murphy officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Whitley’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, located at 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
