Shirley Ann Morton

Shirley Ann Stamey Morton, 86, of Kannapolis passed away Monday August 18, 2025 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

She was born October 5, 1938 in Cabarrus Co. to the late Mark Pimroy Stamey and Gradie Faye Smith Stamey.

Shirley worked at A.L. Brown High school for 25 years, she loved going to Holden Beach, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she loved watching preaching on TV and Gunsmoke, talking on the phone, she enjoyed cleaning but most of all she loved being around family,

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years James Issac Morton Sr., daughter Cynthia Schrum, brother Bobby Glen Stamey, granddaughter Crystal Ann Wetherbee.

Those left to cherish her memory, children, Shelia Wetherbee, Linda Wetherbee (Richard), James Issac Morton Jr., Bonnie Overcash (Todd), Sharon Clendenin (Jeff), Sister Peggy Lowery, seven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 7:00 PM Wednesday August 20, 2025 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service from 5-7 PM at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be Thursday at 11:00 am, Thursday at Salisbury National Cemetery.
