Obituary

Roy Odell Black, 88, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Roy was born on August 7, 1937, in Rowan County. He was a cherished son of the late Leroy Black and Sudie Irene Bame Black. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Kirby Black; brothers, Norman Black, Robert Black and Gene Black; and sisters, Mary Pheiffer and Ruby Deal.

Roy was a quiet and kind man whose life was rooted in simple joys. A lifelong resident of Kannapolis, he carried a deep love for his hometown and found comfort in familiar places and everyday routines. He dedicated many years of hard work to Cannon Mills, from which he retired with pride.

Roy found peace in the outdoors, especially while fishing, where patience and stillness suited him well. At home, some of his favorite moments were spent sitting on the porch, watching the world go by, content in the place he loved most.

In his younger years, Roy enjoyed playing baseball, a passion that later gave way to many happy days golfing with friends and family. He was especially devoted to his late wife, Patricia, who was not only his partner in life but truly his best friend.

Roy will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Mike Fisher; daughter Tina Murray; brother, Tommy Black (Barbara); grandchildren Hannah Couchenour (Dan), Kolby Smith (Jared), Dyane Daigle, and Chris Coffey (Jennifer); great-grandchildren Hannah Daigle, Caleb Daigle, Noah Daigle, Ava Coffey, Aiden Coffey, Zella Couchenour, and Storie Couchenour.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. There will be no formal services at this time. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
