Robert Larry Jones

Larry Jones, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Atrium Health ICU Unit at 3:48 P.M. with family by his side. He had received a fatal fall due to Alzheimer’s.

He was the son of the late Glenn Lee Jones, Sr. and the late Kathleen Horton Jones. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland but was brought to Kannapolis as a child.

In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Lee Jones, Jr.

Larry attended Kannapolis City Schools and was in the class of 1961 at A.L. Brown High School.

He worked in his family business as a boy; Jackson Park Supply from 1951 – September 1965, Akers Motor Line from October 1966 – April 1969, Johnson Motor Lines from April 1969 – August 1980 when they closed, he then went to Consolidated Freight Ways until his retirement on May 31, 1996.

Larry loved going to Cruise-In’s and showing his old cars until he was stricken with Alzheimer’s.

Larry left behind his wife of 63 years, Judie Jones and son, Michael Dean Jones. He was the proud “Papa” of grandson, Breckan Hall Jones of Mooresville. Survivors also include brothers, Tracey Jones of Concord and Jerry Jones (Liz) of South Carolina, and many cousins and friends including Wayne Finney who visited and would talk with him about the Cruise-In’s and old cars, and Kay Cline who sat with him.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Sunday November 2, 2025, in the fellowship hall at Calvary Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church. A private burial will be held at a later date, in the Heron Fountian Columbarium, 601 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
