Ricky Lynn Pethel, 69, of China Grove, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 9, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
Rick was born on January 15, 1954 in Iredell County. He was a cherished son of the late Reverend Roy Richard Pethel Jr. and Sally Louise Woodie Pethel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Reverend Chris Pethel.
Rick leaves behind a legacy of love for the outdoors, a passion for hunting and fishing, and a deep connection to his faith.
Rick was a dedicated sportsman from an early age. His love for hunting and fishing was evident to all who knew him. Whether it was the crisp morning air of the hunting woods or the tranquility of a peaceful lakeside, Rick felt most at home in nature. He had a talent for turning fishing into storytelling sessions, and those who were fortunate enough to join him on his adventures knew that every trip was not just about the catch but also the tales he would share.
Rick spent his career working as a plumber. Later he opened his own business, Rick Pethel Plumbing. His business was a testament to Rick's dedication to his craft and his community.
Beyond his love for the great outdoors, Rick was a deeply spiritual man. He was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Rick’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and it gave him strength in times of trouble and joy in times of celebration. He was a living example of love and humility, and his devotion to the Lord was unwavering.
Rick leaves behind cherished memories and a trail of laughter. His family and friends will forever hold close the moments spent with him, whether it was on a fishing boat, in a hunting blind, or simply enjoying a sunny day at the beach.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Debby Bost Pethel; daughter, Dawn Honeycutt; son, Jason Pethel (Candice); grandchildren, Kalyn, Haley, Laci, Maley, Carson, and Miles; three great-grandchildren, Ace, Ava and one on the way; sisters, Teresa Efird (Dean) and Dianne Little (David). We can’t forget his faithful companion, his dog Bailey.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Piedmont Baptist Church in Kannapolis. A funeral service will be held the following day at the church starting at 11:00 am Friday, October 13, with Rev. Rodney Efird and Rev. Mike Edwards officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
