Richard Mayfield McDowell, 71, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, just two days before his birthday. He was born on December 26, 1953, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and grew up in Ontario, California.
Richard had a rough upbringing, one that shaped his resilience and strength and gave rise to many remarkable stories that he loved to share. Those experiences helped form the hardworking, compassionate man he became. Richard was a man of many skills and paths. Over the years, he worked in construction, taught driver’s education, and embraced the simple, meaningful life of homesteading. No matter the job, he approached his work with dedication, integrity, and pride.
He was deeply devoted to his faith and loved the Lord with his whole heart. Richard never missed an opportunity to share that love-whether in conversation with friends, strangers, or anyone willing to listen. His faith guided his kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others, especially those less fortunate.
Richard had a special love for animals, movies, and meaningful conversation. He was known for his warmth, his sincerity, and the quiet way he showed love through actions more than words.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Katrina; his daughters, Rita and Eva; his sister, Sendie Cochran; his cherished dogs, Scooter and Hazel; as well as his nieces, nephews, and three grandsons. Among those who loved him dearly was niece who affectionately called him “Dudeman” while he lovingly called her “Red”- a small but treasured bond that spoke to the depths of his relationship.
Richard’s life was one marked by faith, compassion, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and belief will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
