Rev. Donald Frazier Davis, 87, of Concord went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Donald was born January 4, 1937, in Chesterfield County, S.C., a son of the late Vester and Edith Frazier Davis. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Miriam Ayers and Shirley McCollum also a brother John H. Davis.
He moved to the Concord area from Greensboro in 1984.
He was a graduate of Bennettsville S.C. High School and Fayetteville Technical College. He was ordained a minister in 1990. He was currently retired but continued to serve the Lord in interim and supply pastor capacity as needed.
Donald had also performed missionary work in South Africa, India, Scotland and Romania.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1978 with 21 years of military service. He served during the Vietnam War Era.
His second retirement was from Fieldcrest Cannon in August 1990 as Manager of Information Services.
Locally he had served as pastor of Memorial Baptist Church for over ten years and has since served as interim pastor of First Baptist Church in Enochville, Shadybrook Baptist Church in Kannapolis, Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Concord, Blackwelder Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis, and New Horizons Baptist Church in Midland, served as the Senior Adult Pastor at Pitts Baptist Church in Concord and was supply pastor at Odell Baptist Church in Concord.
He served on staff as a volunteer at Cabarrus Baptist Association starting in 1999 serving as Mission Strategist for several years. He had written a column in the Independent Tribune since 2001 and in the Marlboro Herald Advocate in Bennettsville, S.C.
Rev. Davis had written and published eight books. His passion is for lost people knowing that they must know Jesus as Lord and Savior if they are to go to Heaven and live forever.
Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Butler Davis, two sons, Donald A. Davis and wife Brenda of Staley, NC, and Rev. Dr. Steven F. Davis and wife Leigh Ann of Kannapolis, and one daughter, Gail D. Williams and husband Ken of Concord
He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Brittany Leigh Rogers (Josh) of Gulfport, Miss., Dr. Joshua Williams of Pickerington, Ohio, Ashleigh, Alison and Anna Davis of Kannapolis, and Cassandra Daponde (Brett) of Myrtle Beach, Kalisha Hubler of Greensboro, and Michael Williams of Concord. He is also survived by five great grandchildren and one Sister, Magilee Thompson of Bennettsville, S.C.
Rev. Davis will lie in state at the church Friday from 1:00 P.M.-1:45 P.M.prior to the service.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 19, 2024, at River Rock at Odell Baptist Church in Concord conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve F. Davis, Rev. Corey Alley, Rev. Brian Duncan, and Mr. Eddie Thompson. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 P.M.-1:45 P.M.. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force.
The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083 Thursday from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
