On June 3rd, 2025, at 10:45 a.m., the world got a little quieter—and a lot less feisty—as Rebeca Quintana passed away after a long, defiant battle with dementia. Born on May 16th, 1951, in Cuba, Rebeca came into this world with fire in her heart, opinions on the tip of her tongue, and enough personality to fill a room—and then some.
She was Rebeca with one C, and don’t you dare spell it any other way.
Rebeca was fierce in all the best ways. She loved passionately, lived unapologetically and always had something to say—whether you asked for it or not. She had an uncanny ability to solve puzzles, both the jigsaw kind and the kind that involved fixing the lives of her daughters and grandchildren with wine, wisdom, and occasionally, blunt-force honesty.
She found joy in life’s little pleasures: road trips, the gentle sound of wind chimes dancing in the breeze, the serene beauty of swans—perhaps the only creatures graceful enough to match her spirit, a good glass of wine (or two), and a horoscope that (hopefully) told her she was right. A full moon always made her stop and smile—sometimes with a glass raised to it.
Rebeca is survived by her daughters, Evelyn and Rebeca (yes, she named her daughter after herself—because of course she did); her beloved grandchildren: Alexys, Justin, Noah, Kyle, Fabian, Adrian, and Leah; and her favorite sons-in-law Robert and Joaquin, who always knew when to duck for cover or hand her a glass of Merlot, and her loving sister Agatha Fleming
Rebeca wasn’t just a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—she was a whole mood. She showed us how to love deeply, she taught us to stand up for ourselves and fight passionately, laugh loudly, and live like you mean it. She may have forgotten many things in the end, but we will never forget her.
Rest easy, Mami. We’ll keep your wine glass full, your wind chimes ringing and will remember you with each full moon. See you in our dreams.
