“Pepe” José Adriano Escandón, 80, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Pepe was born on March 1, 1944 in Ecuador to the late Virgilio Escandón and Raquel Escandón.
Pepe worked in the bleachery department for Cannon Mills for 33 years and then was a maintenance technician for S&D Coffee for 16 years before retiring. He was very active his entire life. He proudly played soccer and volleyball for the military in Ecuador. He enjoyed coaching Dixie Youth baseball and was an avid runner. He loved boating, being out on the water, and watching the sunsets in Florida. For many years, he also enjoyed lawn care and cared for the church grounds at Royal Oaks United Methodist Church. Most of all, he was a family man who dearly loved spending time with his family above all.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 52 years, Janice Escandón; daughter, Diana “Cholita” (Kevin) Holbrook; son, José (Sarah) Escandón; four grandchildren, Austin Holbrook, Christian Holbrook, and Audrianna “Grace” Holbrook, and Violet Escandón; and siblings, Gerardo (Olga) Escandón, Martha Escandón, Piedad Escandón, Rosario (Luis Herrera) Escandón, Marianita de Jesus Escandón, and Vicente (Melania) Escandón.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow and begin at 2:00 p.m. in Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chad Irons officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Royal Oaks UMC, 1020 Kansas St. Kannapolis, NC 28083.
