Paul S. Bessent Jr., 75, of Kannapolis, North Carolina entered the gates of Heaven on October 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. His earthly life began on January 16, 1948, with his parents, the late Paul Stevens Bessent, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Lingle Bessent.
Paul was drafted in the US Air Force and proudly served his country in Viet Nam. Paul was a lifelong learner and entrepreneur. He began his professional career while he was President of Salisbury High School’s Future Business Leaders of America. Later he attended Catawba College. He owned a State Farm Insurance Agency in Kannapolis for 25 years. He proudly served the Kannapolis community in a variety of city, civic, and volunteer roles. Paul served on the Kannapolis City Council, YMCA Board, and worked with Kids Voting. Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis.
He enjoyed spending time with his cherished friends and golf buddies, Jim Blair, Wally Safrit, and Bill Hillhouse.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Sandra Bessent; his daughters, McKenzie Hampton and Bethany (Damone) Ross; his grandchildren, Isaiah Mason, William Herbst, Michael Herbst, Ga’ Brielle Van Note, and Aubrey Ross; his sister, Laura Bessent (David) Price; his mother-in-law, Barbara Boucher; his cousins, Glenda Lingle (Steve) Ball and Sue Lingle (Glenn) Wall; his beloved service pet, Garvey, and many cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service for Paul will be held on VETERAN’S DAY, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Vance Street, Kannapolis. Pastor Eddie Spencer will officiate. The family will gather and fellowship with friends and family following the service in the church fellowship hall.
